Detective Lieutenant Brian Ford - Investigative Division Commander

Detective Lieutenant Brian Ford joined the Florham Park Police Department as a dispatcher in September of 2001.  Prior to that, he was an emergency services dispatcher for Hunterdon County Communications from October of 2000 until September 2001.


Det. Lt. Ford was hired as a Patrolman in July of 2003 and attended the 62nd Basic Police Class at the Morris County Public Safety Academy.  Following graduation, he served as a Patrol Officer through July of 2009.


In July of 2009, Det. Lt. Ford was assigned to the Investigations Bureau as a Detective.


In February of 2017, he was promoted to Detective Sergeant where he continued to supervise the Investigations Bureau until being promoted to Lieutenant.  He was also nominated and elected to the role of Vice President of the Morris County Detectives’ Association (MCDA).


In January of 2020, Det. Lt. Ford was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and continued to be assigned to the Investigations Bureau.  He continues his position with the MCDA.


Since beginning his law enforcement career, Lt. Ford has served the Florham Park Police Department in various roles including Traffic Safety Officer, Evidence Custodian, Firearms Investigations, and Juvenile Detective.  Lt. Ford has been a member of our now multi-agency Emergency Response Team (ERT) since its inception and served as a member of the ERT Control Team.  He has also received several awards and commendations both from within our agency and from outside agencies for his work over the years.


Over the course of his career, Lieutenant Ford has attended several specialized training programs including Top Gun Narcotics, DELTA, the NJSACOP Command & Leadership Academy, and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s (FBI-LEEDA) Supervisor Leadership Institute, Executive Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute, and Media & Public Relations Course.   He has also served as a Task Force Officer and Team Leader on numerous occasions while temporarily assigned to the Special Enforcement Unit of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.  


Det. Lt Ford received both his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and his Master’s Degree in Justice and Public Administration from the College of Saint Elizabeth, here in Florham Park.
