The Division of Investigations is responsible for conducting the majority of investigations for the Department and encompasses the Detective Bureau, the Community Policing Division and the Juvenile Aid Bureau.
Detective Bureau and its personnel are responsible for conducting all criminal investigations reported to or initiated by the Department. Those investigations include general offenses such as thefts, frauds and burglary as well as more serious crimes such as homicide, sexual assault and robbery. Detectives conduct undercover narcotic investigations and follow up on any reported incidents that are deemed detrimental to the community. Detective Bureau personnel are responsible for ABC Enforcement and compliance with the NJ Alcohol and Beverage Control Laws by all licensed facilities within the Borough. Detectives conduct all background investigations for Police, Fire and EMS applicants, as well as dispatchers, interns, solicitors and Tow Operators. All evidence and property maintained by the Department fall under the Detective Bureau's responsibility.
Firearms Detectives and civilian employees work in conjunction to process all firearms applications for residents of the Borough. Detective Bureau personnel conduct all background investigations while civilian employees process the required applications and fees.
Megan's Law Detective Bureau personnel are responsible for conducting all Megan's Law investigations which include registration of offenders and annual renewals. All Megan's Law violation investigations and/or community notifications are administered by the Detective Bureau.
