The Patrol Bureau is the largest and most visible organizational unit within the Department and provides the bulk of policing services to the public. The Patrol Bureau provides a staff of highly trained and qualified officers that work 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year.
The primary mission of the Patrol Bureau is emergency response, crime prevention, preliminary investigations, proactive patrol and traffic enforcement. The Patrol Bureau is the primary response unit to every emergency call within the borough, from fire alarms, fires, medical calls, power outages, etc., they are dispatched and respond first prior to any other emergency or non-emergency service called.
Officers in the patrol division utilize marked or unmarked patrol vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, and foot patrol to interact with the public. They can be seen in the center of town during busy periods of the day, at the many recreation fields when events are occurring, and patrolling the residential neighborhoods as well as out main thoroughfares throughout the day and night.
The Patrol Bureau is comprised of four squads with a total of twenty four personnel. Each individual squad is comprised of one Sergeant, four patrolmen, and one dispatcher. The squads work twelve hour shifts, four days on and four days off, rotating two weeks from 7am to 7pm, and two weeks from 7pm to 7am.
